Deal with Adversity

Adversity comes in many shapes and sizes. We all face it at some point in our lives, and some people deal with it on a regular basis. The true definition is “a state of hardship or affliction”. My definition is “when everything goes to hell and you continuously ask yourself WHY ME?”

Perhaps you’re dealing with a death in the family; maybe you’re dealing with a health issue yourself? Can’t make the mortgage payment? Your body is falling apart too soon? You get the hint. One man’s adversity may be another’s inconvenience.

There are many ways to deal with the hurdles that are placed in our path. It is not the struggles that define us; it is the way that we overcome them! I’ve been blessed, but I too have been challenged. I have a few simple policies that I abide by and I thought I’d share them with you. I’d love to hear what works for you.

This too shall pass! Remember that nothing lasts forever and things will improve.

Think of all the people who have it worse than you! Trust me, there are many.

Drugs and alcohol only give you another problem to deal with.

Don’t wait for things to get better; take command and make them better.

Listen to others but trust yourself.

Talk about it. Better out than in.

Believe!

Get yourself off the pity train. It is always filled to capacity anyways.

Do something nice for someone else. It improves your feeling of self-worth.

Adapt and overcome! You give up after you take your last breath.

I get my frustrations out by working out at Impact Strength and Fitness in Augusta. By the time I leave there, I am so exhausted I can’t remember being upset.

All of the above are great suggestions to get through tough times – thank you for posting this at this time as my hubby has some health issues and while I am sympathetic but feel overwhelmed at times, this has opened my eyes. I do believe the road will be less bumpy now – thank you for your help Steve.
