I have been humbled three times in past couple weeks as a few folks have told me that I inspired them to do something special. One friend told me that I inspired him in some small way to leave his job and start his own business. Another hinted that my actions encouraged him to write a book; a dream that he held inside for years. And finally, I received word that a woman battling cancer is now dedicated to putting her moving journal into book form, so her struggles may help others. All because of something I did or said.
These people remind me that writing One Promise Kept was a pretty good idea. Sure, I did it for selfish reasons and the therapeutic results helped immensely, but inspiring others is a bonus that I don’t take for granted. If I can inspire anyone, so can you!
The truth is inspiration can lead to motivation. We must dig down deep and find our own reasons to take that step, walk on the edge, or do something we never dreamed we were capable of. Success is not measured by wealth or social status, but instead by self-worth, happiness, and that feeling of being content.
Most of us are not in a position to change the world, but can we have an impact on those around us? I truly think we can. We are all watched by someone. Our actions and beliefs are on display for others, and what they see can have a powerful effect on them. We learn from our parents and teach our kids, but remember that others can learn from you just as you can learn from others.
I don’t consider myself to be inspirational; just an average guy. There are many people who can inspire and the question is are you, or can you be one of them? Our country sure could use you if you’re up to the challenge. Live right, live well, and most of all live every day!
